We'll take you to the locales of Nan, Pua, and Chiang Rai, where you'll delve deeper into Thai culture, especially that of the north.

  • Welcome upon your arrival at Chiang Mai airport or train station, and transfer to your hotel where you can drop off your belongings before the start of the tour.

  • We take a stroll through the center of the old town, including a visit to the stunning Wat Sri Suphan temple, located in the Silversmiths' Street of Wualai. This temple is entirely covered in silver plates and other metals; you can see artisans working with metal on-site.

  • We then head to the outskirts of the city to discover the magnificent Doi Suthep Temple, located in the mountains at an altitude of 1200 meters.

    Along the way, we stop at Wat Phalat Temple.

  • Departure in the morning for the mountains of the Northwest and the region of Pai, a charming town bordering Myanmar.

    Surrounded by mountains and crossed by the Pai River, this town is a true paradise for nature lovers and offers numerous hiking opportunities in the nearby mountains.

    Pai is also a festive and relaxed town. When evening falls, the streets come alive with numerous street stalls. Food flows abundantly, the bars fill up quickly, and music is, of course, part of the atmosphere!

    130 km of mountainous road with many curves await us this morning. Expect between 3 and 4 hours, plus planned stops along this road nicknamed “the road with 1600 curves”.

  • This morning, we head to Lampang, a small northern town famous for its ceramics.

  • Upon arrival, we visit the Ban Sao Nak House, dating back to the late 19th century. This Thai-Burmese style structure, made entirely of teak wood, rests on 116 pillars. Its museum displays various objects from the daily life of northern Thailand. A real journey back in time.

  • And if we're interested, along the river are some beautiful teak houses that belonged to Burmese traders who traded teak in the last century.

    Notably, there's the Lampang train station with its very classic architecture from the last century.

  • A walking tour along the old street of Kad Kong Ta, where we can see beautiful teak houses, including the Moung Ngwe Zin house.

  • Visit to the magnificent Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao Temple, dating back to the 15th century.

  • We continue this northern adventure towards Phrae, a small town still relatively unknown to tourists.

    On the way, we stop at Khun Bom's, where we will be introduced to traditional northern Thai instruments and make a bamboo flute.

  • Upon arrival, we will visit the Vongburi House, a colonial-style house dating back to the late 19th century.

  • In the morning, we visit a traditional indigo dye workshop, typical of the "Mo Hom" region. Assisted by Khun Paniam, we'll get hands-on (option to dye items like earrings, T-shirts, dresses, hats… to be chosen on site, not included).

  • Continuing towards Nan province. Along the way, we make a stop at the natural site of Phae Mueang Phi, which features landscapes of hoodoo rock formations (known in Thai as "the city of ghosts").

  • 15 kilometers from Nan, we take a detour to the weaving village of Ban Sao Luang, where we observe traditional weaving techniques and patterns representative of the locality.

  • In Nan, we visit local crafts:

    • Shops and workshops for traditional silver jewelry (Lung Boon Chai and others)
    • Textile shops and a multitude of magnificent old teak wood houses
  • In the evening, depending on the day (especially on weekends), there's the possibility of visiting the night market in the city center.

    Nan is a trendy destination among Thais (and relatively unknown to foreigners).

  • This morning, at 09:00 if not done the previous day, visit a few temples, such as Wat Phumin, known for its sublime murals.

    You can also take advantage of the bicycles provided and explore the city at a leisurely pace.

  • Also, detour through a traditional wooden house, which once belonged to Thai nobility. Visit its associated museum.

  • Then a 30 km drive through the valley in the Tha Wang Pah region to the Thai-Lue weaver village of Ban Nong Bua; some of the village's old houses are beautifully preserved; Wat Nong Bua temple is also a superb ancient temple in Thai-Lue style.

  • We continue our journey towards Pua, passing through the small town of Boklua, known for salt extraction. (If the season permits, we may witness this activity.) We take a mountain road with views of rice paddies.

  • Early morning wake-up to watch the magnificent sunrise from the resort.

    Then, after breakfast, at 08:30, departure for the Chiang Kham region. We take a mountain road with beautiful views of the valley we leave behind.

  • Arrival at the destination, visit to the Nantaram Temple in Shan (Burmese) style made of teak wood.

  • We plan an early lunch to arrive at the hotel around noon.

    At 13:00, we leave with our "local guide" for an afternoon of cycling to explore the surroundings of the locality. Vehicle assistance is available if needed.

    Return to the resort for dinner (included).

  • Departure at 09:30 following the valley, at the foot of the Phu Chi Fa hills and the entire mountain range between 1700 and 2000m altitude, which forms the border with Laos along the entire northeastern part of the country.

    It is imperative to arrive at the resort in the mid-afternoon to be able to enjoy the place and settle in before nightfall (around 18:00): sunset over the Mekong, breathtaking view.
    
  • Then, head towards the Mekong River and the Golden Triangle, the meeting point of the Thai, Burmese, and Laotian borders, following the road along the banks of the Mekong.

  • We hit the road again at 9:00 AM.

    Visit to the superb Hall of Opium Museum, built into the hillside overlooking the Mekong Valley.

  • Continuing along the banks of the Mekong to the viewpoint overlooking the Mekong and the huge "decadent Sino-Roman style" casino located on the Laotian bank of the river.

  • Return to Chiang Rai, with a stop at the residence of the painter Tawan Dachanee (also called the "black house"), the most famous (contemporary) painter in Thailand.

  • Then, we'll visit the extraordinary Wat Rong Khun , also known as the White Temple, in Chiang Rai. This temple is a contemporary creation by one of Thailand's most famous artists, Chalermchai Kositpipat.

    While the site resembles a religious complex, its purpose is different: the nine buildings house extraordinary works of art, from meditating Buddha statues to idols of pop culture like Michael Jackson, and murals celebrating the doctrines of Theravada Buddhism. Its immaculate white color gives the building a unique and surprising charm.

  • Continuing to Wat Rong Sua Ten, also known as the "Blue Temple," in Chiang Rai. This temple is the work of a disciple of the architect Chalermchai.

    There, you'll observe sculptures of Buddha in lotus position, as well as figures of demons and legendary nagas, half human and half serpent, along with paintings illustrating the events of Gautama's earthly life.

  • Departure for Mae Salong (25 to 30 km of mountain road), region of the villages of Chinese refugees from the last century and large tea plantations.

    Visit to the 101 Tea Plantation - stroll in the small village of Santikiri to discover the history of the KMT refugees - refugees from the former KuoMingTang army fleeing the end of the civil war in China.

  • We continue our journey into the mountains to Tha Ton, a charming village located not far from the Burmese border. With its hill tribes, picturesque guesthouses, and unique setting by the Kok River, it has all the charms to captivate you. The road to get there is also magnificent, with its valleys, hills, and lush green rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see.

  • From Thaton, we board our long-tail boat and begin our cruise on the Kok River, which will take us back to Chiang Rai. Along the way, you will appreciate the magnificent landscapes of the region, the life of the villagers, and observe herds of water buffaloes cooling off in the muddy waters, as well as a rich and varied birdlife.

    Halfway through, we stop at a tribal village to rest and buy some cold drinks.

  • Early departure to a village in the Mae Chan district to discover rural life.

    You will be welcomed by the hostess who will offer you tea and introduce you to her true Noah's Ark of all the animals she and her husband have rescued over the past twenty years.

    Among them are three elephants who have found an ideal refuge here to live in peace. You will learn more about their lives and have the opportunity to feed them before setting off with them and their Mahout for a walk in the surrounding jungle where the pachyderms will continue to feed.

    Lunch with Karen specialties by a small lake, with the possibility of a short bamboo raft ride on the waters.

    Back at the camp, we will finally witness the elephants bathing.

    English-speaking team on site, our guide will not accompany us this day.
