History

Under the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV), Mueang Pran belonged to the southern region of the Ayutthaya kingdom.

In 1906, King Chulalongkom (Rama V) combined Mueang Pran, Mueang Prachuap, and Mueang Kamnoed Nopphakhun to obtain the new Mueang.

In 1915, King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) wanted to avoid any confusion with the name of the region. Thus, he changed it to Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
