Phibun

Nestled in the heart of Ubon Ratchathani province, Phibun Mangsahan is a lively small town in Isaan. Hosting the main immigration office of the province, it is usually frequented for visa renewal. Yet, it remains untouched by mass tourism.

Blessed with a magnificent landscape traversed by the Mun River, the town of Phibun absolutely deserves a visit. Here, you'll have the opportunity to cruise its rapids and discover its famous steamed buns, sala bao.

The town boasts several tourist attractions to visit.

The public park along the Mun River

Kaeng Sapue Public Park is a lovely spot bordering the Mun River, a few hundred meters from Luang Rd. This natural site offers magnificent views and hosts a few stalls where you can taste skewered dried frogs, a typical local specialty.

Phu Lon Park

This is a semi-touristic park, unique for its Fai Kham flower garden. These beautiful yellow flowers that bloom from December to February always fascinate tourists and nature enthusiasts.

Wat Phu Khao Kaeo

Located on a hill west of the town, Wat Phu Khao Kaeo Temple offers a breathtaking view of Phibun. Its ordination hall of Khmer architecture with Thai ornaments and Indian-style pillars gives it exceptional charm amidst nature.

Wat Kut Chomphu

Having been the residence of the famous monk Luang Pu Kham Bu, Wat Kut Chomphu is an important temple in Phibun. By reaching the top of the stupa, you will enjoy a breathtaking panorama. The view is clear at 360 degrees over the village and the surrounding plains.

Wat Pa Sawang Wirawong

This vast complex is located on a country road not far from the town. A heritage of the Saeng Tham Song Chiwit movement, it is particularly ideal for meditation and inspires a simple way of life in its visitors.

Temple enthusiasts can also explore Wat Pa Pak Dom and Don That Temple outside the town.

What to do in Phibun?

During your visit to Phibun, don't hesitate to float on the rapids of Kaeng Sapue, the town's main attraction. Fun and rich in sensation, the adventure will make you live unforgettable moments.

If you want to try local cuisine, head to the town's large covered market to find your ingredients. You'll easily find red ant eggs, fresh tadpoles, or even grilled buffalo skin to make your most unusual dishes.

Climate

Phibun has a savanna climate with a dry winter. The temperature is sufficiently high throughout the year, with an average of 28 °C, and summers are particularly humid. Indeed, the average annual precipitation is 2,470 mm.

To enjoy a rain-free stay in Phibun, we recommend coming between October and March, during the winter season. The weather will be pleasant, and the temperature rarely drops below 18 °C.

How to get to Phibun?

You can easily reach Phibun from Bangkok, which is the hub of all transportation in the country. The fastest way is to take a plane. You can choose between Don Muang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport, but note that the latter option will be more expensive. However, it will save you half an hour on the journey.

You can also take a train (from Hua Lamphong station) or a bus (from Mo Chit station) to Ubon Ratchathani. From there, you'll complete the journey by taxi. However, if you prefer traveling in the evening, there are also night trains and night buses.

By driving or taking a taxi from Bangkok, you'll cover approximately 650 km. Therefore, the journey will take an average of 9 hours.
