Chachoengsao

This beautiful province in the east of Thailand is appreciated for its serenity. It comprises 11 districts, and its capital, the city of Chachoengsao, borders the right bank of the Bang Pakong River. It is a beautiful place with Sino-Thai colors that is still little visited by foreign tourists. However, Chachoengsao is now seen as a preferred destination for Thai travelers who like to go there for well-deserved vacations.

Visiting the city of Chachoengsao

The rather rural town houses some monuments and historical sites that are not to be missed. Temples are highly respected there, as in the rest of the country. However, the most visited ones are Wat Sothon and Wat Saman Rattanaram.

  • Wat Sothon: This temple is the most famous in the city. It got its name from the Buddha statue found 200 years ago in the Bang Pakong River called Luangpho Sothon. It is a representation of a 2-meter-high bronze Buddha covered with a layer of gold.
  • Wat Saman Rattanaram: This second most visited temple in Chachoengsao has giant statues of Hindu and Chinese deities. Its infrastructure continues to grow and visitors are increasingly coming to buy food, amulets, and regional products on-site.
  • Chinese temples on Supphakit Street: under Sino-Thai influence, this street houses four Chinese temples.

The stilt houses by the river give the city a unique charm. They have existed for about a hundred years and form the Ban Mai floating market. Don't miss this very welcoming trading place to discover the region's specialties and buy quality products in a traditional and spectacular atmosphere.

The city also offers riverside night restaurants to acquaint yourself with local cuisine, and a splendid public park to relax in.

Climate

With a tropical climate, Chachoengsao is very rainy in the summer. Consequently, the average precipitation reaches up to 2004 mm throughout the year. The rains are particularly heavy in October, while they weaken in winter. In February, which is the driest month, the precipitation averages only 23.3 mm.

The best time to visit Chachoengsao is in winter, from November to February. During this period, the season is predominantly dry. You will enjoy a good temperature, with an average of 28°C in December, the coldest month.

Getting to Chachoengsao

You can reach the city from Bangkok. Either:

  • By train: trains from the main station, Hua Lomphong Station, reach the city in 1 hour and 30 minutes. A train journey will allow you to enjoy an extraordinary landscape. Among other things, the rice fields that stretch for kilometers, irrigated by several canals called khlongs.
  • By bus or minivan: bus and minivan lines depart every hour for Chachoengsao.
  • By taxi: rented for the day, it is the ideal transport to receive the driver's advice and travel in peace.
  • By car: car rental is the most comfortable way to enjoy great freedom during your trip.

How to get around the city?

The city has public transportation suitable for all budgets.

  • Tuk-tuk: these motorized tricycles abound in Chachoengsao to facilitate travel in the city.
  • Songthaew: this collective pickup line is a great opportunity to get closer to the locals.
  • Bus: it is convenient for crossing the city and going from one temple to another.
