Koh Lipe - Nomadays
Koh Lipe

Nicknamed the Maldives of Siam, this idyllic spot in southern Thailand has an L-shaped outline when viewed from above. The island lies on the border between the Land of Smiles and Malaysia. As a pearl of the Adang Rawi archipelago, it is a globally renowned beach resort destination. Here, both locals and foreigners enjoy the beauty of unspoiled nature to the fullest. Vacation activities abound both at sea and on the island: snorkeling, tropical hiking, swimming, boat cruises, etc.

The Chao Ley, messengers from the crown

The arrival of the sea gypsies on Koh Lipe was no coincidence. A queen of Thailand invited them to inhabit the island to preempt the Malaysians. As they say, first come, first served.

Island overview

Koh Lipe boasts all necessary tourist facilities and infrastructure: diving centers, restaurants, hotels, shops, ATMs, hospitals, etc. Walking Street is the island's main hub of comfort. Koh Adang is famous for its incredible views of Koh Lipe and its marine park. The smaller, better-preserved beaches of Karma Beach and Sanom Beach are must-visits.

Although part of Tarutao National Park, the island suffers from the downside of its popularity. Pollution is slowly deteriorating its ecosystem. Coral reefs are disappearing along with their exotic fish. Aware of this significant issue, local authorities are making efforts to reverse the trend through various interventions and awareness campaigns. Their efforts are commendable.

When to visit?

Visit Koh Lipe from December to March for good weather and pleasant conditions. However, this period also marks the peak tourist season. From May to October, the island is quieter. Apart from occasional weather inconveniences, your trip should go smoothly on Koh Lipe.

To allow nature to regenerate, local authorities impose restrictions on visits, diving, and fishing during certain periods. Contact your agency to plan your visit accordingly.

How to get there?

By boat from the ports of Krabi, Phuket, and Koh Lanta to Pattaya Beach. During the off-peak tourist season, travelers must take a ship from Pak Bara pier to reach the island.

From Bangkok, take a flight to Hat Yai and then a bus to Pak Bara Pier. From there, continue to the island by boat.

From Malaysia, in Langkawi, travelers can take a ferry from Telaga Harbour Marina or Kuah Jetty to Koh Lipe. These tourists must first register at the immigration control center at Pattaya Beach before visiting the island.

Good to know: All boats to Koh Lipe stop offshore to transfer passengers to island taxis, which require a fee of 1 euro per person.
