History

The Doi Din Dang pottery workshop was established in 1991 by a Chiang Rai native artist named Somluk Pantiboon. After graduating from Rajamangala University of Technology, he spent five years studying ceramics in Japan before returning to his homeland to start his own workshop. During his time in Japan, Somluk Pantiboon had the opportunity to learn from masters in the field, such as Twao Onuma and Taroemon Nakazato.

Visiting the Doi Din Dang pottery workshop

All items crafted at the Doi Din Dang workshop undergo a handmade production process known as "high craft." Typically used for interior decoration, the pots, dishes, vases, bowls, and various items displayed on-site are diverse and unique. It's worth noting that all raw materials used come from the region, including soil, bamboo, and hay.

A visit to this workshop offers the opportunity to witness every step of the object-making process, from shaping to drying, firing, and glazing. Visitors can also interact with local artisans during their visit.

Practical information

Doi Din Dang Pottery Workshop is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except Sundays. Admission is free.
