Suusamyr Valley

The picturesque valley of Suusamyr (also written Suussamir or Soussamir) is located approximately150 km from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The valley is situated between 2,000 m (3,562 ft) and 3,000 m (9,843 ft) above sea level. Back in history

During the Soviet era, the Suusamyr Valley was an important grazing area for nomads, who brought their flocks of sheep to the valley a couple of times per year.

Since then, locals found new interests in the valley too, and started growing potatoes, garlic and vegetables.

Hiking in the Valley of Suusamyr

The Suusamyr valley is popular among nomads for its large pastures, and among travelers for the peaceful atmosphere and the relaxing hikes it offers. With its towering mountains, its agitated rivers and vast plains, the Suusamyr valley is a great place for hikes. You’ll enjoy a great view on the high peaks and their eternal snow at the distance.

You can stop by and buy some fresh dairy products such as kurut (salted goat cheese) or Kymyz (fermented mare milk) and try local cuisine. You will also get to meet a few nomads and incredibly kind and smiling farmers, who are usually delighted to talk and show you around.
