Prachinburi is a peaceful town and the capital of the province of the same name in the eastern region of Thailand. This sprawling provincial town around the Ban Pakong River is located just 134 kilometers northeast of the capital. It is very easily accessible, and tourists never miss the opportunity to enjoy its lush nature.

History

800 years ago, during the Dvaravati period until the Lop Buri period, the city of Prachinburi was particularly prosperous. Some traces testify to this, such as Mueang Si Mahasot and Amphoe Si Maha Phot. Rich in history, these ruins have revealed statues of deities, Buddha images, pottery, and several other significant objects spread throughout the region.

Prachinburi has undergone many administrative reforms. It transitioned from Mueang to Monthon during the Ayutthaya period until the beginning of the Rattanakosin era. Finally, it was recognized as a province during the reign of King Rama VI and was named Changwat Prachin Buri.
