A little about history

Formerly known as Dhundar, Amer was the capital of Rajasthan state before Jaipur. The fort was built by Rajput Raja Man Singh in 1592 and later developed by its descendant Jai Singh I. Amber Fort has undergone several changes and additions over time, at the instigation of successive leaders until 1727, when the Kachwahas decided to move the capital to Jaipur.

The site has a pavilion reserved for the king and his officers, as well as an area designated for the general public. Dwaan-e-Khaas or the "private courtroom" is decorated with delicate mosaics. In this room, the king met his guests who came from other states, ministers and close friends.

Unlike Dwaan-e-Khaas, the sandalwood and ivory doors of the Sukh Niwaas attract the attention of visitors. Inside, the channel that runs through the room carries cold water and functions as an air cooler. Thus, in this artistic room, the atmosphere has been artificially refreshed. It is said that the kings spent their time at the Sukh Niwaas with their queens and sometimes even their mistresses. Moreover, the Sukh Niwaas is considered as the“The Amusement residence”. Sheesh Mahal "Mirror Palace" is the most beautiful and famous part of Amber Fort. The walls and ceiling of this room have been entirely carved with pure glass. It is said that the queen liked to see the stars shining above her when she slept, hence the choice of the glass is in accordance with the construction of the room. The most amazing thing is when you burn out two candles, the reflected light turns into thousands of stars. The lighting of the fort at night is equally enchanting. The reflection of the coloured lights in the nearby lake will mesmerize you.
